Program Schedule

Day 1 Arrive in Johannesburg. Orientation and welcome dinner.
Day 2 Day trip to Pretoria: Visit Union Buildings, Voortrekker Monument, and Freedom Park.
Day 3 Johannesburg: Inner City Tour including Mandela’s Law Office, Carlton Tower, and Maboneng Precinct and Public Art. Lunch of local fare followed by a visit to Constitution Hill.
Day 4 Johannesburg: Apartheid Museum. Afternoon Soweto Tour including lunch with locals and a visit to Hector Peterson Memorial. Dinner at Wandies Place.
Day 5 Johannesburg: Sophiatown tour and Liliesleaf Farm Tour.
Day 6 Johannesburg: Visit Arts on Main before flying from Johannesburg to Cape Town. Dinner at group house.
Day 7 Cape Town: V&A waterfront in the morning. Boat ride to Robben Island. Dinner and talk with ex-prisoner/warden and spend the night on Robben Island in a dorm at one of the old governor houses.
Day 8 Cape Town: Visit Parliament, the District 6 Museum, and the Eastern Food Bazaar in the morning. In the evening, full-moon hike up Lion’s Head.
Day 9 Cape Town: Visit Cape Point, the Boulders Penguin Colony, Simonstown, Kalk Bay, and spend the evening at a concert at the Jenny Eaves Folksong House. Dinner included.
Day 10 Cape Town: Solms-Delta Social Heritage Tour, Museum de Caab, and picnic lunch. Huguenot Memorial and guest speaker in the afternoon. Dinner at the group house.
Day 11 Cape Town: Day trip to the Aquila Private Game Reserve for a safari. Lunch included.
Day 12 Cape Town: Muizenberg Beach and Table Mountain in the morning. Bo Kaap Walking Tour and Cape Malay Cooking Class in the afternoon. Dinner included.
Day 13 Cape Town: Attend church in a local township followed by a walking tour of Khayelitsha with “Mama Africa.” Lunch included.
Day 14 Cape Town: Farewell dinner with djembe drumming in the evening.
Day 15 Fly back to Johannesburg in the morning and return to U.S.
